Have you heard of our ballpoint pens? If not, then I'll tell you now.
A ballpoint pen is a type of pen (fountain pen) in which ink is transferred from a reservoir to paper by a rotating ball.
Due to the spherical shape and the gap between the ball and the handpiece tube, the ball can rotate. The ink from the rod travels through the tip tube to the ball and wets one side of it. When writing, the ball rotates due to friction between the paper and the ball, the side of the ball moistened with ink is outside the tube, and the ink from the ball is transferred to the paper.
The viscosity and density of the ink must be such that the ink does not flow (be thick) from the rod either from the open end or through the gap between the tube and the ball, stick to the latter and be transferred to the paper, moreover, the ink must dry fairly quickly on paper, therefore fountain pen inks are not suitable for ballpoint pens.
Ballpoint pen inks (ink pastes) are oil-based, with pigments or dyes added to give them different colors.
Due to their simple design, ballpoint pens are cheap and widely used.
